The Coefficient of Friction

Objectives:
  • Explain the possible effects of a frictional force (slowing down, stopping or preventing the movement of a body).
  • Name the factors that modify the magnitude of the frictional force in a given situation (e.g. the nature of the surfaces in contact, the shape of a body moving in a fluid).
  • Determine the value of the frictional force in a given situation (frictional force = driving force - resultant force).
